When Mayra, a school teacher, was diagnosed with cancer, she was no longer able to work. She was awarded SSI disability and Medicaid benefits, and received extensive medical treatment for her condition. When her medical providers’ attempts to bill Medicaid were denied, Mayra was left with more than $37,000 in unpaid medical bills. With the help of an LSGMI lawyer, Medicaid agreed to pay Mayra’s bills and the burden of these medical expenses was lifted.

Chief Justice Quince to speak at LSGMI’s “Heart of Giving” Donor Recognition Reception on March 11

On March 11, 2010, LSGMI and the Together, We Must Campaign Committee will recognize the generous support of our outstanding donors at the “Heart of Giving” Celebration. The venue for this spectacular evening of art and philanthropy is the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse. Featured speakers include Chief Justice Peggy A. Quince, Florida Supreme Court and Michael Putney, Senior Political Reporter. The evening will also include a silent auction of selected fine art and photography, as well as music by the Florida International University Jazz Ensemble.
