LSGMI Community Economic Development Advocacy Director John Little Selected to Receive South Florida Community Development Coalition 2012 Leadership Award

The award recognizes Mr. Little’s tireless work furthering community development in low-income neighborhoods, often as a behind-the scenes leader.

John Little began his employment as a community development specialist attorney with LSGMI in 1985 where he is responsible for providing free legal assistance to nonprofit corporations engaged in housing, economic and community development activities in ethnically diverse low income neighborhoods. John has extensive experience in the legal aspects of real estate development, affordable housing, and small business issues, and was instrumental in the formation of the South Florida Community Development Coalition (the “Coalition”).

John currently provides legal assistance to virtually all non-profit members of the Coalition and has served as the Coalition’s corporate secretary for the past twenty seven years. Through his work with the Coalition, John was able to reach out and assemble a group comprised of six nonprofit members of the Coalition in order to form the Miami-Dade NSP Consortium which was awarded $89 million dollars in HUD funds in 2009. John provides legal representation to the Consortium members and is involved in virtually all of their multifamily and single family acquisition and rehabilitation deals.

John has been able to forge lasting relationships linking community organizations, lawyers, developers, and members of local government in the Coalition’s mission: “dedicated to building communities and developing assets in Miami-Dade County.” The Coalition has achieved its goals, in large part, through the involvement of their most tireless advocate, John Little, who for the past twenty seven years has provided counsel and education to community development practitioners so that they may continue to develop affordable housing and economic opportunities in Miami-Dade County.
