On June 17, 2011, Miami’s “new generation” of lawyers gathered together on South Beach for “Club Nite”—a fabulous evening of music and dancing at Louis at the Gansevoort to support a good cause—equal justice. The event was held in partnership with the Gwen S. Cherry and Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Associations, and was co-chaired by Olanike Adebayo and Jennifer Ellis.

Guest speaker Betty T. Ferguson, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner, urged attendees to follow in her late husband’s footprints and serve the community. Emceed by Rico Love and generously sponsored by The Opium Group, the event raised $4,000 for law student fellowships at LSGMI in the names of LSGMI alumni Gwen S. Cherry and Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. “We are grateful to the Gwen S. Cherry and Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Associations for their support and collaboration,” said LSGMI Executive Director Marcia Cypen. “We look forward to working with the new generation of lawyers who will carry on the legacy of Gwen Cherry and Wilkie Ferguson.”
