Collis

“LSGMI saved my home of almost 50 years from foreclosure.”

Collis, an illiterate 85 year old retiree and father of 10, worked for decades as a cafeteria cook expecting to at least own his home. Instead he became a victim of fraud, and faced foreclosure of the home he bought in 1963. LSGMI successfully defended the foreclosure against three entities which each claimed ownership of the mortgage, asserting that their claims were invalid because they were based on a forged warranty deed. Collis now owns his home free and clear, and was awarded damages from the perpetrator of the fraud.

On October 19, 2011, Outgoing LSGMI Board President Garrett J. Biondo (The Biondo Law Firm) “passed the gavel” to Lance A. Harke (Harke Clasby & Bushman L.L.P.) at a reception generously hosted by Sabadell United Bank. Biondo was presented with an award by LSGMI Executive Director Marcia K. Cypen with heartfelt thanks for two years of inspired leadership as Board President.

Harke was installed as LSGMI’s new Board President by United States Magistrate Judge Barry L. Garber. Also installed as LSGMI Board officers for 2011-12 were Carlos J. Canino (Stearns Weaver Miller), 1st Vice President; Yanick J. Landess, 2nd Vice president; Jeffrey B. Crockett (Coffey Burlington L.L.P.), Treasurer; and Nancy Ciampa (Carlton Fields, PA), Secretary. Darian Baldwin (representing Greater Miami Service Corps), Lionel Lightbourne (representing Belafonte Tacolcy Center), Adriana Lozano (representing South Florida Urban Ministries, Inc.), Linda M. Leali (White & Case) Anita Margot Moss (Markus & Markus PLLC), and Cherine Smith Valbrun (Ward Kim Vaughan & Lerner LLP) were installed as new Board members.
