Each year we provide free legal services which benefit more than 30,000 vulnerable members of our community who have nowhere else to turn for help- women, children, seniors, veterans returning from combat, people with disabilities, low wage workers and the homeless who have problems in the areas of tenants’ rights, homeownership, health, income maintenance, employment, special education, tax and consumer rights.

Service

Excellence

We are a model legal services program in the nation. Our attorneys achieve excellent results for clients and were selected “Most Effective Public Interest Lawyers” in 2010 and 2011.

Accountability

Oversight is provided by our active and engaged Board of Directors appointed by local bar associations and community organizations. We earn top scores from our grantors, and have been a low risk auditee for almost ten years. Ninety‐two percent of all program funds go directly to client services.

We are a “safe harbor in the storm.” Clients with critical legal problems can be confident that they will get excellent legal representation and be treated with dignity and respect.

Community

We are a critical part of the safety net that helps prevent homelessness. Every $1.00 spent on legal services generates almost $5.00 of local economic impact, making our community stronger.

We are a well‐respected and proven leader in the Equal Justice community. We provide training and mentoring, and serve on strategic task forces and bar committees within our unique areas of expertise.

Innovation

We are on the cutting edge of the delivery of legal services and were pioneers in establishing practices in the areas of affordable housing, federal income tax, and veterans advocacy.
