“LSGMI helped me get custody of my grandchildren after my daughter was killed in a car accident.”
Josefa came to LSGMI for help after the tragic death of her daughter Marianna in a car accident. The accident left Marianna’s two boys with no parents and no place to live because the boys’ father had also died several years before. LSGMI quickly filed a petition in family court, and Josefa was awarded custody of her two grandsons in less than 30 days. The boys now live in a stable and loving home.

Who We Are
LSGMI is the largest provider of broad-based civil legal services for the poor in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, and is recognized in the state and in the nation as a model legal services program.
We provide innovative, effective legal services which help thousands of individual members of our community annually, creating a positive impact on the community as a whole. Our diverse staff provides clients with legal services in three languages from regional offices located in Miami and South Dade, which also serves residents of Monroe County, and from neighborhood offices throughout our service area.
Our talented and dedicated professional staff provides advice and representation in individual cases, addresses systemic issues, and empowers clients through community education and self-help clinics.
